Black Swamp Gators Youth and Junior Triathlon Team
Triathlete’s Code of Conduct
As a member of the Black Swamp Gators Triathlon Team, I understand that my attitude and conduct reflects not only on me and my family, but on my team and sponsors as well. This is especially true when wearing team gear traveling to races, or at practices in public parks, pools, tracks or trails.
Participation in sport is a privilege and good sportsmanship is an integral part of being a Black Swamp Gator triathlete. Failure to honor the Triathlete’s Code of Conduct may result in temporary suspension from team practices and activities. Therefore, I understand that I must:
• Respect my coaches. They are part of my growth as an athlete and person and have valuable knowledge, experiences, and perspectives to share with me. I will listen carefully at practice, follow directions, and ask questions when permitted.
• Respect my teammates. Being a member of the Gators means encouraging my teammates, and helping them improve and grow as individuals. This includes cheering for them at practices and races. Disrespect shown to others in any form (verbal, physical, emotional) will not be tolerated.
• Respect my parents. Parents contribute time and resources to our growth and are deserving of respect and appreciation.
• Respect for improvement. Being a good athlete means being a good competitor and striving for personal improvement. I will give my best effort at practice and races and appropriately challenge myself with the help of my coaches.
• Respect for safe and fair competition. Officials and volunteers make important contributions to the growth and development of our sport, but may be limited in their knowledge of a particular race course or the rules governing triathlon. Therefore, coaches and triathletes are responsible for knowing the race course and rules. Poor officiating, rule infractions or unfair competition will be addressed by the head coach.
• Remember that triathlon should be fun! A healthy approach to triathlon requires that we prioritize fitness, friendships, and fun. Taking ourselves and our sport too seriously can be detrimental to our own personal enjoyment and progress!
My behavior as reflected in my attitude, effort, and conduct at team practices, races and events requires I maintain a high level of personal integrity and healthy approach to triathlon. I will respect the team environment to ensure my participation is encouraging, respectful, inclusive, and a positive contribution to the pursuit of fitness, friendships, and fun. This code will provide everyone a team where they can grow as a person and develop as a triathlete.
Please sign below to acknowledge your responsibility to honor this Code of Conduct.
